Not sure if mentioning this will end up jinxing me or bringing me luck, but with the 4thSPFBO coming to an end, I have to at least admit to myself that I WANT TO BE A PART OF THIS! I want one of my lil ole books to be a part of the 300 that are picked in June. I want my story to go through the hands of dozens of book bloggers who will like it enough to nominate it as one of the 10 that are then voted on, scored and ranked! I don’t necessarily want to win, but just being recognized by others within the self-publishing community, specifically for Fantasy authors, would be amazing!
I guess you can say I chose to be a self-published author so I could avoid being judged and rejected by…anyone! Which is funny for me to look back on this decision I made when I was a teenager, especially as I now WANT to be judged…at least by my peers. I want those I know actually enjoy a story of fantasy and adventure to read my work and love it as much as they did the four previous winners of SPFBO.
I’m not looking to get an agent or a publishing contract out of this. I honestly wouldn’t know what to do with that kind of attention. But when I look at the LONG LIST of self-published fantasy authors, I imagine what it would be like to see my book and my name among that list. I think it would be…for lack of a better word…totally DOPE!
I’ve read the blogs about SPFBO but if I’m being totally honest, I have no idea how the 300 books/authors are chosen. I think I can nominate myself. I should probably look into that if I hope to be a part of the 5th Annual SPFBO!
SPFBO Mission statement:
The SPFBO exists to shine a light on self-published fantasy. It exists to find excellent books that might otherwise have gone unnoticed. It exists to help readers select, from the enormous range of options, books that have a better chance of entertaining them than a random choice, thereby increasing reader faith in finding a quality self-published read
